Having escaped—for the most part unscathed—the gnarled 1980s and 1990s of my youth… while I was grateful… I found, more and more, that I was trapped in nostalgia for that which I had become so grateful for having escaped. I was in a stable, loving relationship, had a respectable, challenging job (as a university professor in the media field), friends, family…

Even when all this stability had the ground pulled out from under it when my partner’s US visa was set to expire in 2004 and we sold everything, quit our jobs and moved to Indonesia, then to Canada… I fairly levitated through it queerly untouched.

The 19 songs on this album, written and recorded between 1998 and 2010, chart my complete commitment to a life and world that were growing more inconsequential the more stable they became. What was all of this stability for?

These are not the only songs I wrote, recorded and retained from this time period. They were selected for inclusion in a chronological book (Misguided home) of 64 brief stories (none longer than 2 pages) that sprung from the lyrics of 64 songs that I composed and recorded between 1985 and 2010.
